ICAP

Attention all 9th, 10th and 11th grade families,

We are excited to share information about this year’s Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP) Conferences. These conferences will not be to talk about regular academic coursework as other conferences have been. Instead, you and your student will sit down with a staff member, and students will lead a discussion about their ICAP activities this year. They will share this information with you at our student-led conferences taking place on one of two dates later this month: the 23rd or 30th.  You should have received a text from your son or daughter making sure you know we are getting ready for this!

During these conferences, students will discuss the experiences and reflections they did toward developing a career plan for their future success. The goal is that these conferences will also invite further discussion at home and will help with registering for courses that will align with career goals. There will be information and handouts sent home from these conferences with course registration guidelines that will occur in February. Discussion points for families to focus on while choosing classes in a meaningful way will be provided.

Additionally, our School Counselor, Mike Thompson, will be available from 5:30 to 6:00 in the CFA lobby to answer any additional questions about course registration, specifically Kirkwood course registration.

You will be receiving an email before the end of the week from the teacher that is assigned to conference with you and your child.  That email will include a link that will allow you to sign up via google doc. for your 30-minute time slot. Our goal is 100% participation. We were just over 55% last year, and would like a much higher turnout this time.

Our staff puts tremendous value on our career and academic planning as we are committed to helping students have a successful transition when they leave SHS. Our hope is that all stakeholders--students, parents, and teachers--can have focused and meaningful conversations around career and academic success.

Thanks so much for your support, and if you have any questions please let us know.
