Lakeview Feature Teacher: Kari Mai
2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Kari Mai works tirelessly to provide her students with individualized support in both social emotional needs and academics! She goes the extra mile to provide 1:1 supports to many of her students, making adjustments as needed to ensure each child gets exactly what they need.
This week Mrs. Mai began a highly individualized math intervention for one of her students. During her collaboration with the LV instructional coach around the student’s intervention and progress monitoring plan, they pulled resources from the K-5 Math Teaching Resources. These were determined by backtracking on the Achieve the Core coherence map to identify the first grade standard that would support the 2nd grade standards the student fell out on on the mid-year screener. While this means rearranging her math block and providing 15 minutes of RTI instruction to one student, Mrs. Mai jumps in with a smile on her face and an optimistic approach. She is an advocate for her students, a team player, and a positive light in everyone’s day!
