Authenticity in Learning

Collaboration and authenticity are such powerful tools in education. They are our opportunity to provide students with real-world connections to the skills and content they learn in the classroom. Authenticity in learning is about providing students with the opportunity to apply skills and content learned in the classroom to real-world situations. Authenticity brings purpose to our learning.

Mrs. Pflughaupt exemplifies the core of true collaboration and authenticity of learning with her continuous support of core curriculum. Most recently, Mrs. Pflughaupt partnered with the 4th grade classrooms to bring their news articles to life! The students have been learning how to write like reporters during their Lucy Calkins If/Then Journalism Unit. Utilizing the 5 Ws (who, what, where, when, why) to bring their stories to life. With the help of Mrs. Pflughaupt, each student was given the opportunity to record their news story in front of a green screen. Once all recordings are complete, students will have the opportunity to choose a preferred background and watch their news reports.

Thank you Mrs. Pflughaupt for bringing strong real-world connections to our students learning experiences! Thank you for helping them see the purpose behind what they are learning, because writing is more than just something for the classroom.
