Jim Hauer grew up in West Union, Iowa, and returned after two years of college to start the construction business he has now operated for 38 years, specializing in commercial and industrial roofing. When his children were small, he began pursuing a passion for his rural hometown's growth. In particular, he hoped to maintain an appeal for families to raise their children there. He and two other businessmen created a non-profit that annually organized a golf tournament that raised $500,000 over a decade. The effort benefitted the development of the West Union Recreation Center and enhanced the school district's purchase of weight room and playground equipment. Jim and two daughters moved to Solon in 2009, where he's continued to enjoy the activities of his blended family. He and Jan Miller have three adult sons, in addition to daughters Sydney, a sophomore at UNI and Saige, a freshman at Solon High School. Jim has been involved in the Solon Booster Club golf tournament, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and the building of the future Solon Middle School.
