COVID-19 Solon Community School District Dashboard Criteria

The Solon CSD has developed a COVID-19 Dashboard to communicate with community stakeholders regarding the trends associated with COVID-19. The following information provides the metrics used in the dashboard, the definition and guidance related to each metric, and the methods used to generate the data related to each metric.

Metrics & Definitions

% of Students Absent due to Illness- This represents the percentage of students absent due to reported illness of any kind AND absent because they are in isolation due to a positive COVID-19 result and/or COVID-19 symptoms. Students who are counted in this data are those who are expected to attend in-person classes (Lakeview n = 411; SIS n = 196; Middle School n = 325; High School n = 488). Any student who is quarantined for any reason is not considered ill until they display symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 - these students will not be reflected in this percentage. (Students participating online through Apex and Edmentum are not counted in this data.)

% Staff Absent due to Illness- This represents the percentage of staff absent due to reported illness of any kind. Staff who are counted in this data are those who are expected to regularly attend in-person work responsibilities (i.e. teachers, associates, custodians, administrators, kitchen staff, and bus drivers; n = 199). Teachers who report as displaying symptoms and are ill or test positive are included in the Staff Absent column.

# Students Quarantined- This represents the number of students who have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case as identified during the contact tracing process either within or outside of the school classroom context. This also includes those students who have exhibited symptoms and are required to quarantine. Students who are voluntarily quarantined by parents are not included in this data. Only those who have been identified through contact tracing are included in this data. This data will be collected and reported by the Central Administration Office. *This is a rolling total of students across days.

# Staff Quarantined- This represents the number of staff who have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case as identified during the contact tracing process either within the school context or outside of the school context. This also includes those staff who have exhibited symptoms and are required to quarantine. This data will be collected and reported by the Central Administration Office. Staff who test positive are considered in isolation and not included in the quarantined data. Staff who test positive or begin to display symptoms are then included in the Staff Absent due to illness column.

Positive Student Cases- This represents those students who have confirmed positive COVID-19 tests as reported by parents and confirmed through Public Health. This data is reported per day and does not include a running total. These students are not included in the quarantine data and are considered in isolation due to their positive test result.

Positive Staff Cases- This represents those staff who have confirmed positive COVID-19 tests as reported by staff and confirmed through Public Health. Staff who have been identified as positive will be included in the Staff Absences due to illness column - these staff are considered isolated.

District Procedures

Data Collection & Entry

Attendance data for students is collected and entered into each building’s data table by 10:00AM for Lakeview, Intermediate School, and Middle School. High School will enter data into the building data table by 11:00AM. Building secretaries will enter data for both students and staff who have called in with an illness or have been identified as being positive and are categorized as ill. General doctor appointments, scheduled procedures/surgeries, as well as other personal appointments or absences are not counted.

Central Office will report any staff quarantine or positive cases. Once a positive staff case is identified, the data is then counted under the Staff Absent due to illness column.

Students who leave school early due to any reported illness during a school day will be counted in the dashboard as ill.

School nurses will provide data related positive COVID-19 tests as well as students who are quarantined. *Specific identifying information related to students’ and families’ names will not be included in the dashboard.
