The Solon Community School District announced on January 18, 2021 to PK-5 staff that Jessica Tabor will lead Lakeview Elementary full-time beginning the 2021-2022 school year. Tabor was hired in the spring of 2019 to lead the Solon Intermediate School for the 2019-2020 academic year after Zach Wigle, former SIS principal, was named the Solon High School Principal.

Tabor was assigned the challenging task last spring to lead both the Intermediate School and Lakeview Elementary for the 2020-2021 year after former Lakeview Elementary principal, Jodi Rickels,  announced her retirement.

"The decision to place Mrs. Tabor as principal for both buildings was based on concerns related to whether the district could recruit high quality candidates we would look for to fill a principal role in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," commented Dr. Davis Eidahl, Superintendent of Solon Schools. "After a great deal of discussion and consideration for the unique circumstances we were facing as a district at the time as well as Mrs. Tabor's leadership abilities, we decided to give this a try, not knowing if this would be for one year or three. We were committed to making this a success and knew we would need to evaluate the effectiveness of the PK-5 principal structure," continued Eidahl.

The district came to the conclusion toward the end of the first semester after several conversations as well as examining the unique needs of each school that it would be important  that each school should have its own assigned principal.

"The Solon School District has high expectations for teaching and learning and a strong emphasis on innovation which requires a great deal of leadership support and guidance," stated Eidahl. "We gathered feedback from both Mrs. Tabor as well as staff from each building that provided the information we needed to make the final decision to assign Mrs. Tabor to Lakeview as well as identify some of the desired leadership traits we are looking for in the next principal to serve the Intermediate building," Eidahl shared.

Tabor shared, "I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to continue my career in Solon with the Lakeview team. While I am excited for the next chapter in my career, I will miss SIS deeply. I never could have imagined connecting with a building the way I did with SIS. Together with staff, we created an environment that fostered reflection, accountability, and teamwork. I am so proud of my time at SIS and know that they will continue to be the strong building that they have always been."

"I am excited and appreciative of the opportunity to continue with Lakeview next school year," commented Tabor. "There are so many connections and moments of reflection and growth that I cannot wait to continue into next year. Lakeview, like SCSD itself, is filled with reflective, passionate, and hardworking educators and staff. I can't wait to see how much further we grow as a transition to full time principal at Lakeview," concluded Tabor.

The school district has contracted with Grundmeyer Leader Services to search for the next Solon Intermediate School principal. The search firm was used in the previous search when Mrs. Tabor was hired. The district will be collecting applications from interested candidates through February 24th with interviews taking place shortly there after with the new principal to be announced prior to  spring break in March. Various stakeholders will be involved in the interview process to provide feedback. The new principal will begin August 1, 2021.
