2019/2020 SIS Kindness Challenge

On Thursday, January 23rd, we kicked off our building kindness challenge! With the support and guidance of our wonderful school counselor, Mrs. Heather Pentico, students at SIS will be working on increasing their acts of kindness toward one another. For every act of kindness classes will earn a link, which will be added to a building kindness chain. The goal is to make a long enough chain that will span the length of the gym. Each month students will attend a short kindness assembly to see which class earned the most links for the month, as well as add links to the building kindness chain. The winning class will receive a "Golden Rule" plaque to be displayed in their classroom for the month. If we can build a chain that wraps around the gym, all SIS students will receive a building "field day" type activity.

In order to build a strong student body, we will be assembling a peer leadership team consistent of 4th & 5th grade students. The team will consist of one kindness ambassador from each classroom. The team will meet once a month to discuss class progress, student needs, and opportunities for community building. Students interested in being a kindness ambassador are encouraged to write 1-2 sentences explaining why they should be their class kindness ambassador. Teachers will read each explanation and choose one student per class. Kindness ambassador announcements are planned for the morning of Wednesday, January 29th.

We know that our SIS students are kind, compassionate, and thoughtful! This kindness challenge will give us an opportunity to highlight the already existing qualities of our students, as well as continue to build a strong sense of community within the building.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback. Thank you for your continued support!
