Fourth Grade Information
Fourth grade provides diverse and challenging school experiences that nurture independence and organization in developing learners.
We are dedicated to promoting high levels of literacy for all students. In addition to learning to read, fourth graders are now reading to learn. We provide our students with comprehension strategies that will enhance their reading experiences with fiction and non-fiction text. Our Houghton-Mifflin curriculum provides weekly writing experiences in addition to more in-depth writing projects.
Our math curriculum includes computational fluency in multiplication and division, the meaning of fractions, representing and describing data, and examining 2D and 3D shapes. Our curriculum encourages students to reason mathematically, develop problem-solving strategies, and represent their thinking using models, diagrams, and graphs.
We believe that hands-on experiences maximize student learning through inquiry. Our science curriculum includes units on Electrical Circuits, the Human Body, Motion and Design, and Earth Materials. These units invite students to explore and begin to expose them to basic scientific methodology.
Our curriculum provides challenging and engaging activities as we study the geography and culture in the regions of the United States. Each fourth grader also writes a research paper over a state of their choice.
