The Solon Community School District's primary method to report school closings and delays is local television (KCRG, KGAN, and KWWL) and radio station (WMT, KHAK, KDAT, KRNA, KZIA, and KCJJ) announcements. The SchoolMessenger is a secondary public announcement that delivers personalized phone, text message, and/or e-mail messages to parents, staff, or other groups via home, office, and/or cell phones. Parents/Guardians do not have to do anything to receive communications through this new system as it is pulled through information from our parent-student information system, PowerSchool.
SchoolMessenger will also allow a school administrator to record a short message to be delivered to an extensive or selective list of parents or teachers. School administrators may use SchoolMessenger to send messages home to all parents in a building, all parents in a grade level, or special groups of parents.
- SchoolMessenger will deliver calls for school closings, emergencies, and weather delays.
- School administrators will use this system to send out general announcements and notifications on an as needed basis.
Contact Manager
The Contact Manager feature of SchoolMessenger will let parents control what messages are received and where they are received. Additionally, any messages which have been sent to you in the last thirty days will be available for review in the Contact Manager account.
To receive access to Contact Manager, please send an e-mail to notifications@solon.k12.ia.us. Be sure to include your name and your child's/children's name in the e-mail, and indicate that you would like to receive your Contact Manager activation codes. Following receipt of this e-mail, the sending email address will be verified on the student's records and activation codes will be generated and emailed for the students requested.
Please note that if there is a change to your childs information (phone number, address, emergency conctact person(s), etc), you must notify the office in the building they attend. Contact Manager will not make these changes with the district for you.
